       HISTORIC PROCLAMATION

            50TH CLASS REUNION
            BOUNTIFUL HIGH CLASS OF 1958

Memories of an innocent, awkward era shared with other classmates is the common bond we share through growing up together.  This extraordinary bond, this magnetism, this unique feeling towards other classmates is something that we do not share with other people. What is this remarkable feeling that binds us together? It seems to me this emotion is invoked by ”experiences shared”.

Sometimes our experiences were exciting, joyful, wondrous, sincere, and hilarious.  Some were sharing of inner thoughts, new experiences, and love and thoughtfulness.  Sometimes our experiences were awkward, embarrassing, heartbreaking, distressing or painful.  Sometimes our nose was to large, or our ears protruded out to far, or we were slow to mature, or we had the most horrible pimples or complexion as we became aware of ourselves and how we appeared to others.

When we discovered these flaws it was tragic, as we knew we were the “only one” inflicted with this dilemma.  We were so vulnerable; we all had embarrassing experiences when “I could just die”.  They were all growth experiences that we shared together as we matured into young adults.  Some classmates were from dysfunctional or abusive homes.  Some had loving homes where they were nurtured and guided.  In school we shared new experiences within our closed environment and with the security and support of our family of classmates

This is the bond we share. The acceptance of each other.  A non critical view of ourselves and our classmates behavior realizing we were young and immature, from different environments and with different challenges.   But it defines us as a group “our family of classmates”, with our shared feelings and emotions and our memories of ”experiences shared“.
